The Einstein family moves to via Foscolo 11 in Pavia.

Aarau, Switzerland October 26, 1895

Einstein enrolls as a third-year pupil in the Technical School of the Aargau Kantonsschule, three days after the third quarter has started. While living in Aarau he boards with the Winteler family.

Einstein's first known critique of a story while still in Aarau
.

Zurich, Switzerland October 20, 1896

The winter semester at the ETH begins. Classes start that day. During this semester Einstein meets fellow physics student, Mileva Maric.

Zurich, May 21, 1897

Outside the sun shines seductively and I am free & have nothing to do, and yet nothing draws me from my room to the outdoors. I feel as though the dear sun is smiling down on everyone, but not on me--and still I know that that's not true--I seek the solitude only to complain then silently about it. And I could not say why I feel so strange; after all I am the same odd fellow as before.

Zurich, Switzerland July 28, 1899

In a week's time I'll be hiking on the Santis, this will bring fourth some marvelous clambering.

Mettmenstetten, Switzerland August 06, 1899

It was wonderful on the Santis. I was up there twice in 4 days.

Mettmenstetten, Switzerland August 10, 1899

Many thanks for your little letter, to which I would have replied by now had I not gone with our landlord on a walking tour in the mountains, which was, by the way, quite delightful (Zug-Einsiedein-Zuricher Obersee).

Electrodynamics would then be the theory of the motion of moving electricities and magnetisms in empty space.

Milan, Italy September 28, 1899

Once I am back in Zurich, we shall immediately climb the Utliberg. There we can have fun unpacking our memories of Santis: I picture it again to myself in such gay colors. colors.

Melchtal, Switzerland August 01, 1900

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leontopodium_alpinum
Melchthal is a wonderful little stream valley formed by mountains that are tall but not covered by glaciers.
I was yesterday with Maya on a rather high mountain, where we found many edelweiss. We had a marvelous view, especially of the gigantic firn fields of the Titlis.

Milan, Italy September 19, 1900

Imagine, tomorrow morning I am again running away to the mountains - I'll be climbing a mountain near Lago Maggiore & I shall then visit Isola Bella.

Milan, Italy October 03, 1900

In physical chemistry I am now quite well versed.

Zurich, Switzerland December 20, 1900

During these last few days we have been sledding a lot on the Zurichberg .
Albert felt in Seventh heaven whenever we went downhill "like the devil".

Milan, Italy April 04, 1901

About Max Planck's studies on radiation, misgivings of a fundamental nature have arisen in my mind, so that I am reading his article with mixed feelings. On the other hand, I have in my hands a study by Paul Drude on the electron theory, which is written to my heart's desire, even though it contains some very sloppy things.

Milan, Italy April 14, 1901

It is a glorious feeling to perceive the unity of a complex of phenomena which appear as completely seperate entities to direct sensory observation.

Winterthur, Switzerland July 07, 1901

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misanthrope
From now on I'll not turn any longer to this kind of
person but will rather attack
them mercilessly via journals, as they deserve. It is no wonder that little by little one becomes a misanthrope.

Winterthur, Switzerland July 08, 1901

Authority gone to one's head is the greatest enemy of truth.

Have you too already looked at Schopenhauer's Aphorisms
on the Wisdom of Life? This is a part of Parerga & Paralipomena, and I liked it very much.

Schaffhausen, Switzerland November 23, 1901

Einstein submits a doctoral dissertation to the University of Zurich.

Schaffhausen, Switzerland December 12, 1901

We shall remain students as long as we live, and shall
not give a damn about the world.

Schaffhausen, Switzerland December 17, 1901

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diogenes_of_Sinope
I am now working very eagerly on an electrodynamics
of moving bodies, which promises to become a capital paper.

If Diogenes were to live today, he would look with his lantern for an honest person in vain.

Schaffhausen, Swtizerland December 28, 1901

I now want to buckle down and study what Lorentz and Drude have written on the electrodynamics of moving bodies.

You should just hear Ehrat talking about marriage, it's too funny. He talks about it as about a bitter medicine that has simply to be taken dutifully. His wife will find it amusing. How differently people look at one and the same thing, it's very funny. isn't it.
